A REAL EPIC DAY
Okay so if I ever have grandchildren… or if the little girl that my sister’s about to have… if she ever has a baby… and that baby grows up and asks me where I was when Barack Obama was sworn in as President I will say that I was pouring a coffee (with cream) at Applebee’s. That’s what I was doing. And I’ll wonder if that is a good story and then I’ll remember that actually it is a great story.
How moving it was to see the inauguration today? It didn’t seem real. Did it seem like a movie to anybody else? It was such a great day for our country.
I am not sure what else to say. I just felt pride for America. And I don’t usually feel that. And I’m not trying to be ugly. His speech today was powerful.
I’m not trying to sound overly gushy. I am fascinated by how well Obama seems to embrace the historic significancy of all of this. Do you know what I mean? He doesn’t shy away from how grand it is. I felt as if I was watching something epic. Yeah, like a movie. But it wasn’t a dramatized, cinematic remake of an event, it was THE REAL EVENT. And it was epic already. It was more epic than you could ever remake it, you know?
The REAL event was better than any exaggerated movie could ever be… that’s what I’m trying to say.
I kept wondering if people were realizing it. I mean, I know that people were aware of what was going on but… it made me want to get mad at anybody who wasn’t getting it, you know?
We should all be very thankful to get to experience this. That’s what I’m saying.
Okay, I’m out.
